April 2021 Peer Mentor of the Month - Ben

Meet Ben, our April 2021 “Mentor of the Month.” Ben is a sophomore at Northern Virginia Community College, Loudoun Campus, and has been a College Steps Peer Mentor since August 2019. He is studying Psychology at NOVA and plans to pursue a career in clinical psychology. Ben’s greatest strength is his ability to connect to students in a genuine way. He offers encouragement often and is a great guide who helps students problem-solve and discover helpful strategies. He has helped students achieve their goals of organizing class materials, implementing effective study strategies, and managing anxiety. This semester, Ben has taken on the role of one of NOVA Loudoun’s Lead Mentors. In that role, he has been a great source of support for mentors as well as students, diligently checking in on sessions to provide guidance and sending informative and encouraging emails to mentors. Tommy Murphy, the Program Coordinator at Loudoun, says, “Ben has been very dedicated to supporting our students and his fellow mentors. He continually goes above and beyond in that role and we are grateful that he is a part of our team!”
