Peer Mentor

College Steps | All Locations | Part Time

Overview

College Steps is hiring for a Peer Mentor at all of its current college locations. This individual will be responsible for providing direct support to young adults with learning differences as they navigate post-secondary education and build toward greater independence. The Peer Mentor plays a central role in the College Steps model — offering guidance, encouragement, and practical skill-building to students in a relatable, strengths-based framework. The goal of this position is to help students develop the academic, social, and self-advocacy skills needed to succeed in college and beyond.

 

Job Title: Peer Mentor

 

Job Overview: The Peer Mentor will work directly with College Steps students to support their academic progress, social development, and personal growth. The primary focus will be on building authentic, trust-based relationships with students and delivering individualized support aligned with each student’s goals and the College Steps program model.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Direct Student Support
    • Meet regularly with assigned students to provide academic coaching, organizational support, and social skill development
    • Help students navigate campus resources, course expectations, and day-to-day college life
  2. Relationship Building
    • Develop genuine, supportive relationships with students built on trust, consistency, and encouragement
    • Serve as a relatable role model and source of guidance for students with learning differences
  3. Goal Setting & Progress Monitoring
    • Collaborate with students to identify individual goals and develop actionable plans to achieve them
    • Track student progress and communicate updates to the College Steps team on a regular basis
  4. Program Participation
    • Actively participate in College Steps team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share strategies and ensure consistency of support across the program
  5. Family & Stakeholder Communication
    • Maintain open communication with families and other support team members as appropriate
    • Support students in developing self-advocacy skills so they can communicate their own needs over time
  6. Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate and timely records of student meetings, progress, and notable observations
    • Provide regular updates to College Steps leadership to inform program planning and improvement
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (or currently enrolled)
  • Experience working with individuals with learning differences, developmental disabilities, or similar populations preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine passion for supporting young adults
  • Ability to build trusting, consistent relationships with students and families
  • Patient, creative, and strengths-based approach to support
  • Familiarity with post-secondary education systems and college campus environments is a plus
  • Personal experience with learning differences or neurodiversity is welcomed and valued

Instructional Coordinator (Part-Time)

College Steps | Multiple Locations | Part Time

Overview

College Steps is hiring for part-time Instructional Coordinators across multiple locations. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the design, delivery, and quality of instructional support provided to young adults with learning differences enrolled in the College Steps program. The Instructional Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that programming is evidence-based, student-centered, and aligned with each participant’s individualized goals. This position bridges direct student support and program-level oversight, working closely with Peer Mentors, students, families, and institutional partners to ensure a cohesive and high-quality experience across all College Steps sites.

 

Job Title: Instructional Coordinator (Part-Time)

 

Job Overview: The Instructional Coordinator will lead the instructional and programmatic components of College Steps at their assigned location. The primary focus will be on curriculum development, staff coaching, student progress monitoring, and ensuring fidelity to the College Steps model across all aspects of service delivery. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling designed to accommodate candidates balancing other professional or academic commitments.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Leadership
    • Design, implement, and continuously improve instructional programming for students with learning differences in post-secondary settings
    • Ensure that all instructional approaches are evidence-based, individualized, and aligned with College Steps’ program model and each student’s goals
  2. Staff Supervision & Coaching
    • Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and professional development to Peer Mentors and other program staff
    • Conduct regular observations and provide constructive feedback to support staff growth and instructional quality
  3. Student Progress Monitoring
    • Oversee the development and implementation of individualized student plans in collaboration with Peer Mentors and families
    • Monitor student progress across academic, social, and independence domains and adjust programming as needed
  4. Curriculum Development
    • Develop and refine curriculum materials, lesson plans, and skill-building resources that support student success in college and beyond
    • Stay current on best practices in special education, post-secondary transition, and support for neurodiverse learners
  5. Partnership & Collaboration
    • Build and maintain relationships with college faculty, disability services offices, and other campus partners to support student integration and access
    • Collaborate with families, support teams, and external providers to ensure consistency of support across environments
  6. Program Quality & Compliance
    • Ensure program activities are delivered with fidelity to the College Steps model and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards
    • Identify areas for program improvement and bring recommendations to College Steps leadership
  7. Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, staff performance, and program activities
    • Prepare and present regular reports to College Steps leadership to inform program planning, staffing decisions, and outcomes evaluation
  8. Family Engagement
    • Support families in understanding the College Steps model and their student’s individualized plan
    • Foster open, collaborative communication between families, students, and program staff
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Special Education, Education, Psychology, or a related field preferred
  • Experience in special education, post-secondary transition services, or support for individuals with learning differences required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising or coaching staff
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices and individualized support planning
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, student-centered environment
  • Availability to work part-time hours across an agreed-upon schedule at an assigned College Steps location
  • Familiarity with post-secondary education systems, disability services, and transition planning is strongly preferred
  • Personal experience with learning differences or neurodiversity is welcomed and valued

Support Specialist (Part-Time)

College Steps | Multiple Locations | Hourly

Overview

College Steps is hiring for part-time Support Specialists across multiple locations. This individual will provide direct, hands-on support to young adults with learning differences as they navigate the academic, social, and personal demands of post-secondary education. The Support Specialist is a frontline role within the College Steps model — working closely with students, Peer Mentors, and Instructional Coordinators to ensure that each student has the day-to-day support they need to thrive. This is a part-time position with flexible scheduling designed to accommodate candidates balancing other professional or academic commitments.

 

Job Title: Support Specialist (Hourly)

 

Job Overview: The Support Specialist will provide individualized, direct support to College Steps students at their assigned location. The primary focus will be on assisting students with academic tasks, daily organizational challenges, social navigation, and skill-building toward greater independence — all within a strengths-based, student-centered framework.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Direct Student Support
    • Provide individualized, in-person support to students across academic, social, and independence skill areas
    • Assist students with coursework, time management, organization, and navigating campus life
    • Help students identify and utilize campus resources, supports, and services available to them
  2. Relationship Building
    • Develop consistent, trust-based relationships with assigned students grounded in encouragement and respect
    • Serve as a reliable and positive presence in students’ day-to-day college experience
    • Engage students in a manner that promotes confidence, self-advocacy, and independence over time
  3. Individualized Goal Support
    • Implement student support plans developed in collaboration with Instructional Coordinators and Peer Mentors
    • Support students in working toward their individualized academic and personal goals on a session-by-session basis
    • Observe and document student progress and share relevant updates with the broader support team
  4. Skill Building
    • Facilitate skill-building activities focused on executive functioning, social skills, communication, and self-regulation as appropriate
    • Reinforce strategies introduced by Instructional Coordinators and Peer Mentors in real-time, applied settings
  5. Team Collaboration
    • Work closely with Peer Mentors and Instructional Coordinators to ensure consistency and coordination of support across the team
    • Participate in regular team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
    • Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding student needs, concerns, or notable observations
  6. Family & Stakeholder Communication
    • Support open communication with families as directed by the Instructional Coordinator
    • Help students develop the skills and confidence to communicate their own needs with family members and institutional partners
  7. Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain timely and accurate records of student sessions, observations, and progress
    • Submit documentation in accordance with College Steps reporting requirements and timelines
  8. Campus & Community Navigation
    • Accompany and support students in navigating campus environments, community settings, and extracurricular activities as appropriate
    • Help students build familiarity and comfort with the broader college and community environment

 

Position Requirements:

  • A commitment to work at least 2 semesters
  • Maintain a minimum schedule of 18-20 hours per week during programming hours
  • Attend weekly group supervision meetings
  • Attend 3-4 training hours per semester by sign-up 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field preferred; candidates currently enrolled in a related degree program will be considered
  • Experience working with individuals with learning differences, developmental disabilities, autism, or similar populations preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine commitment to supporting young adults with diverse needs
  • Patient, flexible, and strengths-based approach to working with students
  • Ability to take direction from supervisors and work collaboratively within a team
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Availability to work part-time hours across an agreed-upon schedule at an assigned College Steps location

2. Service Knowledge:
• Develop a deep understanding of the educational services offered by College Steps.
• Stay updated on industry advancements and competitors’ offerings.

3. Sales Presentations:
• Conduct presentations to demonstrate the value of College Steps’ services to educators and decision-makers.
• Customize presentations to promote College Steps based on the specific needs and requirements of each educational institution.

4. Relationship Building:
