College Steps is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that was founded by a clinical psychologist and a special educator with a simple mission: To empower students living with learning and social challenges through structured post-secondary support. Working closely with high schools, colleges, and families, we emphasize peer-to-peer services that build confidence and success.
The Four-Pillar Framework
Academic success isn’t about working harder, it’s about working in ways that align with how a student thinks and learns. We believe students already have the ability to succeed; our role is helping that ability translate into real-world performance. By emphasizing self-awareness, strategy, and self-advocacy, we help students navigate college-level expectations with confidence and clarity.
College is as much a social transition as it is an academic one. We believe belonging is foundational to confidence, growth, and long-term success. Our approach to social involvement focuses on helping students understand social dynamics, develop authentic relationships, and feel comfortable showing up as themselves. Rather than pushing participation for participation’s sake, we support students in building genuine connections that make college feel like a place where they truly belong.
Independence is built through experience, not instruction alone. We focus on helping students develop the practical life skills that reduce stress and increase self-trust. From daily routines to long-term planning, our philosophy centers on empowering students to manage their responsibilities, make informed decisions, and build systems that support their well-being beyond college.
We believe neurodivergent thinking is a strength when it’s understood and supported in the right environment. Our approach to career readiness is rooted in helping students recognize their unique abilities, communicate them effectively, and navigate professional spaces with confidence. We prepare students to pursue careers where they are valued for who they are, not asked to fit into roles that don’t serve them.
College Steps’ professional expertise comes from our deep specialization in serving students with learning differences, autism, and executive functioning challenges. Our comprehensive approach reflects years of dedicated focus on what actually works for neurodivergent students, not just what works in theory.

College Steps is built on the belief that students are more than a diagnosis, challenge, or label. We create opportunities for students to strengthen executive functioning, social confidence, self-advocacy, and independence within authentic college environments. By focusing on strengths and meaningful connections, we help students build the foundation for success far beyond the college experience.
