austin’s story
Austin Morgan began with College Steps in 2017 at NOVA Annandale. Austin has plans for the future, hopes to earn a college degree, and likes making friends. But unlike most of his peers at the 21,000-person campus, Austin lives with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In Austin’s case, the challenges associated with ASD have less to do with academic ability and more to do with organizing thoughts and communicating with others. In fact, Austin completed several high-level science and biology courses, some of the most difficult classes NOVA offers. His goal is to one day work in the growing field of genetics and discover new diseases.
In Fall 2018, Austin enrolled in a four-year program at George Mason University in genetics. College Steps supported Austin’s transition to GMU. In the fall of 2018, Austin went on to make Dean’s List at GMU.
