The transition to college is a significant milestone — and for neurodiverse students, having the right support in place can make it not just manageable, but genuinely empowering. College Steps is a nonprofit that partners with colleges and universities to provide individualized support for neurodiverse students. Operating independently from the institutions themselves, College Steps works alongside campus resources and accommodation systems to help students navigate both the road to enrollment and the demands of college life.
How It Works
There are two distinct processes families should understand:
College Admission — Students apply to and are accepted by a college or university through the standard admissions process.
College Steps Enrollment — Separately, students apply to College Steps to receive personalized support services.
College Steps guides students and families through both, bringing clarity to a process that can otherwise feel fragmented or unclear.
Who College Steps Serves
College Steps is designed for neurodiverse students who are preparing for college, currently enrolled, or navigating the transition in between — particularly those with IEPs or 504 Plans who benefit from structured support across academic, social, or life-skills areas.
Support Built Around Each Student
Every enrolled student receives an Individualized College Plan (ICP) — a personalized roadmap focused on academic organization, executive functioning, social connection, and self-advocacy. Because College Steps operates independently of the college, students receive consistent, student-centered support that doesn’t shift with staffing changes or institutional priorities.
The Bigger Picture
College is within reach for neurodiverse students. College Steps exists to make that path clearer — building the skills, confidence, and independence students need to not just enroll, but thrive.
